Lecanvey Community Centre’s Purpose is to provide social, cultural, educational and recreational facilities for the people of Lecanvey and surrounding areas.
Our Charity number is 20011949.
The centre was opened officially in 1982, so it’s now at the heart of our community for over 40 years. The centre has always been available for the local and wider community on a not for profit basis.
All monies raised from lotto, dances, craft fairs, private functions etc. has gone to the upkeep, maintenance and improvement of the centre and its facilities.
The support of the local community has helped keep the costs at a manageable level, as well as grants and funding from local and national politicians, Leader and South West Mayo Development and Government funding from Pobal.
Over the past number of years the centre has been a hive of activity, from soccer, basketball, badminton, pickleball, bingo, card playing, social dancing, craft fairs, Murrisk and Lecanvey water campaign meetings to birthday parties for young and old, Christmas concerts, PE for Lecanvey NS, Yoga and Pilates, funerals and removals, and lots more.
The community centre has a vibrant committee, under chairperson Gerard Joyce, who strives to carry on the great work of previous committees, as it is because of their efforts, through some difficult economic times, that we have the wonderful facility in the heart of the community.
